December Daily (day 12)

Part of getting ready for my special day means getting into a cute southwest inspired frock so I am setting a long-term get fit goal. I am gonna take it slow and start with a 30-day personal commitment. I have set a few goals.

1.) eat 1600 calories a day

2.) walk 30 minutes daily and do the You work out three days per week.

3.) Be asleep by midnight and up by sunrise.


Tonight I want to jot down a 1600 calorie meal plan for tomorrow.

B) Kashi bar with and apple and coffee. (270)
L) Half a sandwich with chips and a ginger ale. (450)
---bread, 1 tsp mayo, 2 slices turkey, 1 slice cheese, lettuce and tomato.
D) Tortilla Soup (3 cups, 500)

S) bag of popcorn (40), 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 1 tsp honey and toast (175), tea, 1 tsp honey and 2 tbsp creamer (100) x3

December Daily (day 11)

So in other news I have been thinking about the new year!
I do not like making resolutions instead I choose a theme for the year.
I failed miserably this past year with my wellness goal.
Damn, 2010 and your initial drama.
The end of the year seems to be coming together nicely.
As of yet I have no theme for twenty-eleven.
I may actually have a goal unless I can make it a theme of sorts.

Well, bottom line is I want to plan a wedding for Mr. Potts and I.
We have never actually tied the knot.

I have been dreaming us up the most fantastic little southwest wedding.
We courted in the deserts of west Texas and enjoyed sunsets and warm nights of paired solitude.. I have decided I would love to have a quiet courthouse wedding in a charming town called Marfa, Texas. It a cute place and we can pair the wedding with a quick honeymoon. I would love a couple of days to relax around the desert with my love.

I want to stay the the Thunderbird Hotel in Marfa.
They have a sweet package that includes bike rentals, a typewriter all the vinyl we want.
I think I can handle that.

So in twenty-eleven I am gonna plan a small getaway and get hitched adventure for us.

December Daily (day 10)

I am good at getting behind on my bloggity commitments. This time I have a valid excuse. My whole crew has been stricken with illness. I suspect we picked up a bug while Christmas shopping.

Yeshua was feverish and under the weather for most of last week. On Wednesday he got dressed early and woke me up by announcing, "I am ready for school and I would like some medicine before we leave." We let him go even though he looked a little hazy. On Thursday I had a conference with his teacher and she mentioned he looked under the weather as well. My poor papa. Even though he was sick he kept trying to be a trooper. I kept him home Friday so he could rest up for the secret gingerbread hunt Monday.

By the end of the week all my kiddos and myself were sick. I only get a tad of illness so my worst day was Friday. Molly slept all day Saturday. And Gideon has been sleeping most of today.
He will go to the doctor tomorrow if he is feverish tonight.
But I think he will get better soon everyone else is bouncing back.

Happy Bodhi Day!Today is the day that celebrates the Buddha becoming enlightened.
Gideon was home sick so we watched The Buddha, PBS Documentary.
I love that film.
Afterward I printed Gideon a picture if a Buddha on a Bohdi leaf to color.
Afterwards he told me that the Buddha was meditating and thinking about changing bad things into good things.

December Daily (day seven)

Almost done with Hanukkah.
I have enjoyed the small candle lighting ritual immensely.
Each night we have adapted the mantra just a tad.
When we light the candles I ask the children why we are celebrating Hanukkah.
Based on their responses we now say,

"light over darkness, good over evil, who we are over what we have"

December Daily (day five)

This weekend involved a good deal of shopping.
Each of my little ones made a gift-giving list.
Molly did most of her shopping at Joann's.
She loves the place especially the fabric section.
But this time she stayed on task and came up with a cute gift bag for the kids on her list.

On Saturday Mr. Potts and I took Gideon and Yeshua to Borders for their shopping.
It was the perfect place to shop!
They have a little something for everyone in many price ranges.

And this morning I got to buy toys!!
My fave!
I surprised myself and did all of my kid shopping at Target.
So not me!
But I had to get the Imaginext Batcave with the Joker Fun House. I know my boys will have hours of fun with this combo!
Target even had the best selection in scrap-stack kits.
Molly is so into paper right now I know she will love a scrap booking kit that is all hers.
I even got her new markers and a few sticker sets.

It has been a fun weekend and I am happy we took care of our giving lists before buying for our kids.
I am excited the kids did the shopping with us.
The gifts feel more genuine because they picked stuff out for each other that Mr. Potts and I might not have chosen.

Now lets see how patient they can be for the next twenty days.

December Daily (day three) photo friday edition

I wanted to share this menorah Molly and I made on Wednesday. This is my first time having one and I am enjoying it. I have been using chabad.org to guide our small observance of this holiday. We have our own little ritual. We light the candles at sunset and say, "in celebration of light over darkness, of purity over adulteration and of spirituality over materiality." And to me those are some powerful words to recognize at the start of the holiday season. We leave the candles on about 15 minutes and then blow them out. I was really impressed by how excited Molly was to craft this menorah with me. I think this tradition may be a keeper.

Molly did a little Christmas shopping this morning.
She intended to shop for her brothers.
But ended up buying me something instead.
And enjoyed a snow show at the mall.

December Daily (day one)

So in hopes of recapturing the opportunity to have an advent of some sort I am going to blog each day of December. Today my sons went to go see a play, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, with the entire kindergarten class. It was a big adventure they had prepared for over the course of a few weeks.

Yeshua arrived home a minute or so before Gideon and immediately told me that the field trip caused him to miss recess. He was annoyed. Gideon came in and said, "The field trip was great!."

Later on I got more details from the both of them. Yeshua rode there with Joshua and back with Jack. He did not get a window seat and the ride was long and boring. The bus did not have seat belts but they did shut and lock the door so no one would get out. He also wore a name tag to stay safe. He sat in the second row next to Ms. Brown. His favorite part of the show was when the abominable snowman lost his teeth. He was also impressed with the set. It was the same stage but they kept changing it!

Gideon was not as talkative about the show. know he sat in the front row and saw his brother. He had a good day and enjoyed his field trip. I will have to make time to lay with him a bit and get more detailed information about his experience.
